Fees

The cost of our services varies with the complexity and time involved. Our
consulting fees may on a time and expenses basis, or on an amount contracted
for in advance. The cost of preparing management plans, locating access roads
and trails, identifying and mapping forest types and related projects are
competitively priced. Fees for preparing a timber sale may be a percentage of
the total transaction. The actual amount varies with the difficulty and
 complexity of the job.

In the truest sense, our services do not cost; they pay. There are many instances
where we have marked and sold SOME of our clients timber and obtained far more
than they had been offered for ALL their timber. The higher income is obtained
through competitive bids or negotiations. Studies by the University of Georgia
and others have revealed that 80% of timber sales occur without benefit of ANY
FORESTER, including industry foresters. Landowners with professional forestry
assistance received an average of 68% HIGHER SALE PRICES for the timber sold.
We do not buy timber, broker it, or procure timber for others. We mark,
sell, and manage timber under contract that belongs to our clients. As in other
professions, the expertise and experience we bring to a project provides a
	valuable service.

Landowners can actually improve their forest resources by selling mature trees
and weeding out inferior trees during the course of the sale. We insure that the
project is done correctly and done in your best interest.

Our fees are quite competitive, especially when you consider our commitment
to thoroughness and our personal attention to your needs.

If you are considering selling timber, here are some "do's and don'ts" that will help.
  • Although the buyer may be honorable, he or she may not be looking out after

your interests.

  • Carefully select an independent professional consulting forester to help you. Buyers do not resent it and even welcome the idea. They know professionally marked sales are described accurately, many of the complications have been resolved, and a sale will be completed.
  • A sealed bid conducted by an independent consulting forester usually brings the highest price. Buyers compete under the same conditions, submit one sealed bid, and all bids are opened at the same time. Each buyer knows he has only one shot, and makes his best offer if he wants the timber.

  • Don't try to convince the buyer that you are an expert. It's easy for them to tell if you're not.

  • Don't try to "horse trade" with an expert - they probably know more about it than you do.
  • Dont shop around pitting one offer against another. Buyers resent it and won't make their best offer.
  • Don't price your timber to a buyer. That establishes a ceiling to work down from.
  • Don't think all buyers pay about the same. Supply and demand rules and the differences can be surprising.
  • Don't sell your timber to a broker. It will be re-sold for a profit that you won't get to share.
