Managed Timberland Program
This West Virginia property tax incentive program may significantly lower your property taxes if your land is
under professional forestry care and management. Assessed values for property tax calculations of forestland
enrolled as Managed Timberland, are based on the soil productivity and other indices of value and management
cost. Other timberland is assessed based on the land�s market value. A forest plan is required as is a contract
with the WV Division of Forestry. An annual re-certification is also required. This program significantly
helps most forest landowners, but if the land qualifies for farm valuation, appraisal as farmland usually results in
lower taxes. Managed Timberland helps keep wooded tracts in production by lessening the tax burden.
